Out of the Vault: Soundtracks

June 18, 2022 – June 18, 2023

Exhibition Overview

Out of the Vault is a rotating exhibition of recent acquisitions and hidden gems from Museum of Glass’ collections. The artwork held in our collections represents local, national, and international artists, and features variety of innovative and historic glass techniques.

Each piece is a new puzzle piece from a continually evolving artistic movement. As the Museum collects, we continue to help tell the story of glass in the Pacific Northwest and its impact on artists around the world, and encourage visitors to reflect on the importance of creativity and the diverse possibilities of the medium of glass.

This rotation of Out of the Vault features the soundtracks that artists listen to while they create. Making art from glass is time-consuming. It is an undertaking that can unfold over hours, but more often takes place over days, weeks, or even months. Even when working with a team as large as the one at Museum of Glass, artists often only create one or two pieces in an eight-hour workday.  A great music playlist is essential to keeping focused during a laborious and sometimes tedious working day. Soundtracks are a signature of each Visiting Artist Residency – the music of the day is selected by guest artists and each provides a cadence and attitude that supports the rhythm of working with glass.

Out of the Vault: Soundtracks shares the personal playlists of each of the artists in the exhibition, accessible through QR codes, and available on Spotify.
